Guided video lessons on the 2026-27 season and the three toughest calls in the game, taught by the experts at Referee.

You're a good official. You get the games, you get asked back, your partners trust you. And every fall you think the same thing: I should probably do a little more to get ready.

Then you look at the options. You won't read the rulebook cover to cover, and nobody learned to see a block/charge from a paragraph anyway. Online it's a clip here, a breakdown there, and a guy in the comments who's sure it was a travel. None of it's organized. Half of it has no explanation at all.

You don't need more information. You need somebody who knows what they're doing to walk you through it, show you the plays, and tell you when you've got it.

That's Game Ready.

Why Referee

We've been teaching officials for 50 years. Referee has always been By Officials, For Officials, and your instructor, Mike Brey, is an official. He's had half a second to decide and a coach in his ear afterward.

Plenty of officials have an opinion about what's right. This isn't opinion. Every play, ruling and explanation is fully vetted against NFHS rules and interpretations.

What you get

  • 29 video lessons in six guided sections. No hunting, no guessing what to watch next.
  • This season, covered. Rule changes, points of emphasis, and the editorial changes everybody skims. Several will change what you rule on the floor.
  • The calls that decide games. Block/charge, screening and verticality, play after play on video.
  • A quiz after every lesson. Find out what you missed at your kitchen table, not in front of a full gym.
  • Supporting materials to keep and review.
  • On demand, on your phone or computer. Ten minutes before work or a full section on a Sunday night. Come back all season.

Who it's for

Whether it's your third season or your twenty-third, if you want to walk onto the floor in November sure of what you're seeing, this is built for you.

You were already going to do a little more this year. Make it count.

Your Instructor:

Mike Brya

Mike Brya brings editorial oversight for basketball and all-sports content to Referee Magazine and NASO, drawing on more than 20 years of officiating experience — including seven seasons at the Division I level. He's also authored and edited officiating education books for Referee, meaning the instructional material he shapes isn't just informed by experience, it's material he's helped write himself.

That editorial background is paired with a career in education: Mike spent years as a high school teacher and athletic director before joining the officiating media world, giving him a working understanding of how officials are trained, evaluated, and developed from the ground up.

Few editors bring Division I on-court experience, published officiating instruction, and a background running a school athletic department to the same body of work. Mike does.
